[Cancelled due to weather alert] “Acqua in bocca, ma non troppo” Hosts Vittorio Sgarbi’s Daughter

EVENTS

Evelina Sgarbi, daughter of art critic Vittorio, will be a guest at “Acqua in bocca ma non troppo” on Thursday, September 10 at 5:00 PM in the Portoghesi Hall of the Tettuccio thermal establishment in Montecatini Terme.

On this occasion, she will present her book titled “Nata Sgarbi, storia di un padre e di una figlia” (Born Sgarbi: The Story of a Father and a Daughter) and will be interviewed by the series’ editorial director, Simona Peselli.

This is the story of an imperfect bond. Of a magnetic father, capable of absolute enthusiasm and abrupt retreats, and a daughter forced to love intermittently. Through unexpected confidences and the tender, disoriented gestures of two people continuing to search for one another without ever fully finding each other, Evelina Sgarbi reconstructs the bond with her father Vittorio like piecing together a mosaic, piece by piece, misunderstanding by misunderstanding. Light and shadow: this is what it means to “be born a Sgarbi.” It is a heritage that has little to do with DNA, acting rather as a secret script—something that surfaces in character traits even before appearing in the mirror. The young writer’s pages powerfully express the painful and conflicting moments of the relationship between father and daughter.

“When I started writing this book,” says Evelina Sgarbi, “I never intended to draw an absolute portrait of my father, Vittorio Sgarbi, a definitive image valid for everyone who knows him. I do not have a defined idea of who he truly is: I do not know the man who involved my mother, nor the child raised perhaps in a rigid and seemingly unfeeling family; I don’t even know the man who ended up at the center of scandals. Nor the person whom many have encountered through the pages of his books. I don’t know every facet of him: no one truly knows all the nuances of the people they love.”

Evelina Sgarbi details her life in constant connection and conflict with the art critic. “People are a prism; there are shadowy zones we do not see, sometimes hidden in the past, other times buried deep within. What lies between these pages is a part of that prism, perhaps only one. It remained in the shadows for a long time, yet it possesses the same potential to shine as the others. Because this, too, is my father.”

The “Acqua in bocca ma non troppo” series is sponsored by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Montecatini Terme and the Region of Tuscany.

Free admission for the public at the Tettuccio establishment for all events.
