Philatelic cancellation and conference in tribute to Peter Leopold
On Thursday, Dec. 4, the feast day of the city’s patron saint, the Department of Culture is promoting a series of interesting initiatives aimed at celebrating the 260th anniversary of the installation of Peter Leopold of Habsburg-Lorraine, Grand Duke of Tuscany, and celebrating 13 years of the opening of Mo.C.A. – Montecatini Terme Contemporary Art.
It begins at 10:30 a.m. with a special philatelic cancellation by the Italian Post Office dedicated to Peter Leopold. The event, which will last until 4:30 p.m., will take place on the ground floor of the Municipal Palace.
Organized by the Pro Loco of Montecatini Alto, the cancellation is just one of the events that Montecatini Terme has created in honor of the Grand Duke par excellence in this 2025 in which the Region of Tuscany wanted to honor this statesman of great intelligence and sensitivity.

Waiting for Peter Leopold. Three Centuries of Thermalism at the Baths of Montecatini is the topic covered by Pinochi. Vincenti will instead tell about Pietro Leopoldo of Habsburg Lorraine: from “indolent and lazy” boy to Grand Duke of Tuscany, an enlightened reformer while “Wanting to redo the comforts necessary for the use of the Baths for the public good.” Pitroleopoldine spa policy is the title of Elena Gonnelli’s talk.
Beatrice Chelli, Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Culture, will be present at the meeting for the usual institutional greetings.
