Gianluca Zanella for “Acqua in Bocca (Ma non troppo)”

EVENTS

The series “Acqua in bocca ma non troppo”—a schedule of events on culture, politics, society, and entertainment created by Corrado Benzio and Simona Peselli, the event’s editorial director—continues as per tradition at the Tettuccio Thermal Establishment in Montecatini Terme.

Saturday, September 26th will be an afternoon dedicated to the Garlasco murder, featuring guest journalist Gianluca Zanella, who on this occasion will engage in discussion with expert witnesses and fellow journalists who covered the crime news story.

In Garlasco, on August 13, 2007, Chiara Poggi was found dead in her family home. Chiara’s boyfriend, Alberto Stasi, the sole suspect, was acquitted in the initial trials before being definitively convicted in 2015. However, the verdict remains fiercely debated, dividing both courtrooms and public opinion through battles among experts, lawyers, criminologists, and pundits. Not even a master thriller writer could craft a more compelling criminal and judicial plot: a story riddled with narrow, one-sided investigations, inexplicable mistakes, and a circumstantial trial with a schizophrenic trajectory; plus, the shadow of potential cover-ups, strange suicides, characters who seem straight out of a comic book, and the dark underbelly of black freemasonry and satanic rituals. All of this is the Garlasco murder—a puzzle over which investigators and journalists have been scratching their heads for over eighteen years. An unprecedented case that features a convicted culprit alongside a new suspect under investigation, Andrea Sempio, threatening to radically rewrite the relationship between citizens, the media, and the justice system. At the center of this spiral is the blood of Chiara, a twenty-six-year-old woman.

Gianluca Zanella has been engaged for years in intensive investigative work on the many facets of the Garlasco murder. Through DarkSide, he served as a point of reference in unraveling the tangled threads of this deeply intricate affair. DarkSide – Storia Segreta d’Italia (DarkSide – Secret History of Italy) is an independent news project covering major unresolved and controversial cases in Italian history, adopting an investigative, document-driven, and strictly non-sensationalist approach.

During his research, and despite a demanding schedule, he managed to carve out time to bring clarity to the case and assemble a book that has already reached its fourth reprint: “Il caso Garlasco a un bivio. Cosa accadrà?” (“The Garlasco Case at a Crossroads: What Will Happen?”).

Gianluca Zanella also authored the book “Nel Sangue di Garlasco” (“In the Blood of Garlasco”), which uncovers the hidden truth behind the controversial murder.

«I am not in a position to determine whether Alberto Stasi is guilty or not. And neither are you,» declared Oscar Cedrangolo, Advocate General at the Supreme Court of Cassation.

Gianluca Zanella, who has studied the case for years and is recognized today as one of the leading experts on the matter, leads us into a hall of mirrors where it is easy to get lost, guiding us with journalistic rigor, official documents in hand, through baffling revelations, unpublished records, and exclusive testimonies.

Joining the event at the Tettuccio will also be Professor Francesco Maria Galassi, digital forensics experts Daniele Occhetti and Roberto Porta, and Le Iene journalist Alessandro De Giuseppe.

The event is free of charge and takes place at 5:00 PM in the Salone Portoghesi of the Tettuccio Establishment, subject to seating availability. Gates open at 4:30 PM.

The “Acqua in bocca ma non troppo” series is sponsored by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Montecatini Terme and the Region of Tuscany.
