Giancarlo Antognoni will be a guest at “Acqua in bocca ma non troppo” and will present the book written with Luca Calamai titled “Una vita da dieci, la mia storia tra la Viola e l’Azzurro” (“A Life as a Ten: My Story Between the Viola and the Azzurro”).<\/p>\n

Giancarlo Antognoni, interviewed by the festival’s editorial director Simona Peselli, will share unpublished personal anecdotes and stories from his sports career.<\/p>\n

“I am the product of a football era where club icons were powerful symbols,” says Antognoni. “I think of Gigi Riva, Giacinto Facchetti, Gaetano Scirea. I truly hope to celebrate something important with Fiorentina. To the Viola fans, I am still ‘The Captain,’ ‘The Only 10,’ or simply ‘Gianca,’ because even half a century later, I am still one of them, family. A fellow traveler who never betrayed them.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Born in 1954, Giancarlo Antognoni is one of the most beloved legends in Italian football. He tied his name inextricably to Fiorentina, holding the all-time appearance record in the club’s history to this day with 429 total matches. Wearing the number 10 jersey, he won a Coppa Italia in 1975 and narrowly missed out on the Scudetto title in 1982.<\/p>\n

With the national team, he was a key figure in Italy’s triumph at the 1982 World Cup in Spain, becoming a World Champion. He went on to have a long executive career, and since April 2024, he has returned to serve as the Head of Delegation for the Italian Under-21 national team.<\/p>\n

In this book, for the first time, “The Only 10” lays himself bare, reflecting on fifty years of a life. It is not just the chronicle of an extraordinary career\u2014from the 450 million lire invested by President Ugolini to his debut in Verona under the watchful eye of Nils Liedholm, up to the 1982 World Cup triumph\u2014it is above all the declaration of love from a man who chose to belong to a single fanbase, to a single team: Fiorentina.<\/p>\n

Antognoni revisits his most famous refusals: saying no to “L’Avvocato” Agnelli and Juventus, to Dino Viola, and to AC Milan. Choices made by listening to the beat of his heart rather than the lure of trophies or money. Within these pages, we rediscover the authentic, grassroots football of club icons like Gigi Riva and Gaetano Scirea, his brotherly friendship with Paolo Rossi, his duels with yesterday’s champions, as well as his vulnerabilities, severe injuries, and friendships born in the dressing room and forged through the streets of a magical Florence.<\/p>\n

On the occasion of Fiorentina’s centenary, “Una vita da dieci” is the journey of an “adopted Florentine” who preferred the eternal embrace of his city over a thousand titles elsewhere. A man, but above all a footballer, who never betrayed his loyalty, remaining forever in the galaxy of a single team.<\/p>\n
